Serenity, the feature film that closed Firefly's tele-cinematic storytelling, was as well reviewed as the TV show. Witness these review summaries... (rottentomatoes.com)
It feels both larger and smaller than Firefly. The grander scope of the movie, while thrilling, is a little too elevated and lacks the sense of the workaday that anchored the TV series. Of course, as a wrap, the movie just can't live in the ongoing place that the show does —although it does tip its hat to it in its final moment.

Don't get me wrong. I love the movie. I just love the show more.
For the love of God, watch all episodes of the TV show before watching the movie. This is (sadly) not difficult to do. Then go back and watch the episodes again. There is so much packed in this tiny work (show and movie) that it sustains and rewards repeated viewing.
